NBA Players as WWE Wrestlers
- Updated: September 7, 2016
John Cena hosted the ESPYs this year, and he made a very good point. The NBA these past few seasons have been just like the WWE. He mentioned that LeBron was the “heel” of the NBA. Then he returned to Cleveland and brought a championship to “the Land”. That was the moment he turned “face”. As any WWE fan would know, you need a heel to root against. Then the Kevin Durant decided to go to Golden State. The NBA got their heel.
So that got me thinking, who would each NBA player be if they were in the NBA?
Reigning MVP Steph Curry is AJ Styles
AJ Styles is one of the newest superstars with the WWE. He has two major victories over the face of the franchise John Cena. Now Steph wasn’t as successful as AJ, but he did just have two huge Finals with the face of the NBA LeBron James. There will probably be more big time matches between AJ and Cena, and there will more than likely be more Finals between Curry and James.
Russell Westbrook is WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose
Dean Ambrose is a street fighting champion. He started out apart of a big 3 of the Shield. When Shield broke up, Dean went on to become champion and is one of the toughest fighters in the WWE. Westbrook and the Thunder of 2011 are no more. Only Westbrook remains, and he is more determined than ever to be a fighter. The odds of him being a champion aren’t great, but I wouldn’t recommend telling Russ that.
Kevin Durant is John Cena
The best part about this is that Durant and Curry had a great battle this year just like AJ and Cena, but unlike AJ and Cena, Durant teamed up with Curry. Despite all of that, Durant is a huge superstar in the NBA, some could argue on of the biggest superstars. He is loved by many, and now is also going to be booed by a lot of people. And he is in for an interesting year.
Karl Anthony-Towns is Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens was just handed the keys to the kingdom by the boss Vince McMahon himself. Kevin Owens is a big guy, very popular with the fans, and has a very bright future in the WWE. Towns is being handed the keys to the NBA kingdom by almost everyone. I’ve read a lot of articles about how Towns can bring back the Center position to the NBA. Now if the Wolves can grow like everyone else hopes, he can possibly bring the title to Minnesota.
Devin Booker is Finn Balor
This is one of the reasons why I wanted to do these comparisons. Unfortunately, Balor is injured and he had to relinquish his WWE Universal title. LeBron James said it a while ago, Booker is a slightly underrated player that has a huge upside. He just needs the right situation in order to take the next leap. He should, as long as everything goes right, take the leap in the next few years to being a superstar along with Karl Anthony-Towns.
Ben Simmons is Braun Strowman
Braun Strowman is a very big man. He recently left the Wyatt family and is now finding his footing on Raw. Ben Simmons is a big man. He recently left college and is now looking to find his footing in the NBA. He has all of the physical traits of being a dominant force in the NBA for years to come. Now if he can get the right training and the right team around him, the East will have to deal with Simmons’ 76ers for the next few years.
Demarcus Cousins is Roman Reigns
Roman has all of the physical talent, he has all of the stats, and he has everything in place to be champion. However, the WWE universe doesn’t like him. They tried to have him as champion, but it didn’t work out. Boogie has everything necessary to be a champion. He is (in my opinion) the best center in the league. However, he isn’t liked by a lot of people. Luckily, both Cousins and Reigns are young enough to still turn their career around.
Anthony Davis is Brock Lesnar
Both are freaks of nature. Both are extremely talented. Both are very large men and both are physically dominant. Now I was thinking about comparing LeBron to Brock Lesnar, but I decided to compare LeBron to someone else. Brrrrrrock Lesssssssnar makes an instant impact on every Monday night Raw he appears on. Every game Davis plays he makes an impact on the offensive side and defensive side of the ball.
The final comparison…
LeBron James had to be on this list. There is no way anyone could make a list like this and not mention LeBron. I searched the entire WWE roster to try to find someone to compare LeBron to, but nothing seemed right. I thought about Reigns, Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, John Cena, and even Brock Lesnar. But at the end of the day, there is only one WWE superstar who could compare to the impact that LeBron has had on the NBA and the entertainment world.
LeBron James is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
They are both iconic. They are both one the most recognizable faces of the industry. LeBron is starting his acting career. The Rock is starting his own entertainment company along with starring in blockbuster after blockbuster, and his own HBO show Ballers, etc. Once I saw The Rock’s name on the WWE roster, I knew who I had to compare to LeBron. He will probably be one of the most recognized faces even after he retires and makes special appearances at All-Star games like The Rock does with Wrestlemania.
Special end credits edition comparison:
- Kyrie Irving- Seth Rollins
- Dwight Howard- Big Show
- Blake Griffin- Bray Wyatt
- Dwyane Wade- The Undertaker
- Carmelo Anthony- Chris Jericho
- James Harden- Rusev
- Chris Paul- Randy Orton
And you can’t compare NBA to WWE without this final comparison…
Michael Jordan is Hulk Hogan.
The original. The GOAT.
